Termez State University consumes an average of 42.28 thousand m³ of wastewater per year. The main consumers of this water are university buildings, student dormitories, canteens, laboratories and various household facilities, and this wastewater is directed to the Termez city sewerage treatment plant. Since wastewater contains mechanical impurities, organic substances, food residues and harmful microorganisms which requires a three-stage treatment process..

First stage: Mechanical cleaning
Initially, the water is passed through screens and sand traps to separate large impurities. In this process, about 40 percent of the total impurities are mechanically retained. That is, approximately 16.9 thousand m³ of the 42.28 thousand m³ of wastewater is cleaned of large solid particles, sand and oil layers.
Second stage: Biological treatment
The mechanically purified water is processed biologically in aeration tanks using special microorganisms. At this stage, organic matter is decomposed, reducing the impurities in the water by up to 90 percent. This means that the organic content of the 25.3 thousand m³ of water remaining after the first stage is significantly reduced.
Third stage: Tertiary treatment (higher level of purification)
In the third stage, the water undergoes deep filtration, precipitation of phosphorus using chemical reagents, removal of nitrogen compounds through nitrification and denitrification, and disinfection. At this stage, harmful microorganisms are completely destroyed by chlorination, ozonation, or ultraviolet rays. As a result, up to 95–97% of the water is purified. Thus, 40–41 thousand m³ of the 42.28 thousand m³ of wastewater becomes reusable.
