Termez State University implements the TerSU Transportation Initiative as part of its Green Campus Strategy to reduce the use of private motor vehicles, promote low-carbon mobility, and create a safer, healthier, and more accessible campus environment.
The initiative integrates several sustainable transportation measures, including Car-Free Day, public transportation promotion, bicycle-friendly infrastructure, zero-emission vehicles, electric scooters, smart parking management, vehicle access control, and annual transportation monitoring.

1. Weekly Car-Free Day Initiative
Termez State University implements a weekly Car-Free Day Initiative every Tuesday and Friday from 07:00 to 19:00. During these hours, private cars and motorcycles are restricted from entering the Main Campus, except for emergency, security, and essential operational vehicles.
This initiative encourages students, staff, and visitors to use walking, cycling, public buses, route taxis, electric scooters, electric bicycles, and zero-emission vehicles. It helps reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality, lower emissions, and create a safer pedestrian-friendly campus.

2. Public Transportation Promotion
TerSU promotes public transportation as a practical alternative to private vehicle use. The Main Campus and other university facilities are connected to nearby public bus stops and route taxi points within short walking distance.
The University has developed a Public Transportation Accessibility Map and a How to Reach TerSU by Public Transport guide to help students, staff, visitors, and partners access the campus using public buses, route taxis, walking routes, bicycle facilities, and electric mobility options.

3. Bicycle-Friendly Campus Program
The University supports bicycle use by providing bicycle parking areas and promoting cycling as a healthy, low-cost, and zero-emission mobility option. Bicycle parking facilities are available at multiple locations across the campus and are integrated with pedestrian routes and sustainable mobility planning.
This initiative reduces dependence on cars, supports active mobility, and contributes to a cleaner and healthier campus environment.

4. Zero Emission Vehicle Program
TerSU promotes zero-emission mobility through the expansion of electric cars, electric scooters, electric bicycles, and EV-supporting infrastructure. The University provides designated EV parking areas and supports the gradual transition from conventional vehicles to cleaner transportation options.
The Zero Emission Vehicle Program contributes to reducing fossil fuel use, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and strengthening the University’s Green Mobility Program.

5. Electric Scooter and E-Bicycle Promotion
Electric scooters and electric bicycles are encouraged for short-distance mobility within and around the campus. These options provide convenient, quiet, and low-carbon transportation for students and staff moving between university buildings and nearby facilities.
By promoting micro-mobility, TerSU reduces unnecessary short car trips and supports more efficient campus movement.

6. Smart Sustainable Parking Management System
The Smart Sustainable Parking Management System supports the University’s efforts to limit parking expansion and reduce private vehicle dependence. It includes parking zoning, parking monitoring, EV parking, bicycle parking, accessible parking, visitor parking, and annual evaluation.
The Smart Sustainable Parking Dashboard presents parking ratio, parking trends, Car-Free Day implementation, environmental benefits, and monitoring indicators. It helps the University make evidence-based decisions and improve sustainable transportation performance.

7. Vehicle Access Permit and Parking Control
TerSU regulates vehicle entry through a controlled parking and access permit system. Only authorized vehicles are allowed to enter designated campus areas, helping reduce unnecessary vehicle movement, improve safety, and manage parking demand.
This initiative supports the University’s wider strategy to reduce private vehicle use and encourage sustainable transportation alternatives.

8. Annual Transportation Monitoring and Reporting
The Department of Facilities and Campus Infrastructure conducts annual transportation monitoring to evaluate the effectiveness of sustainable mobility initiatives. Monitoring includes vehicle entry records, parking occupancy, public transport accessibility, bicycle parking use, EV parking, Car-Free Day implementation, and sustainable mobility indicators.
The results are used for planning, reporting, and continuous improvement, and are published through the University’s official Green Campus and Sustainability Portal.
